7 gift-card questions answered

  • What denominations can I buy gift cards in? Is there a limit to how many cards I can purchase?

Great question. Every budget is different, and we’re happy to sell gift cards for as little as $1 and as much as $500. There’s no limit to the number of cards you can purchase, so if a Beer Store gift card is your go-to for family, friends and neighbours, grab as many as you like in whatever denomination you wish within that range.

  • Can I order gift cards online?

Unfortunately, no. We don’t offer digital gift cards. But the good news is that we have hundreds of stores across the province that are stocked with gift cards for you to purchase on your next visit. Our gift cards are also reloadable, making them an easy way to collect your empties money to spend on your favourite beer or to gift to someone else later on. Click here to find a store near you.

  • Can I spend my gift card online?

At this time, gift cards can only be used in-store. This means that if you’re planning to give a gift card to someone, you’ll want to make sure that they have a Beer Store location nearby. And if you’re thinking of ordering them some beer, hold that thought. While it’s a really nice gesture to want to send a friend some suds from us, government regulations state that we can only sell beer within the province of Ontario, so if they live outside of the province (or the country), it isn’t an option.

  • Can gift cards be transferred to another person?

Since our gift cards are physical, like cash, they can be transferred over. If you have a gift card you want to hand over to someone else, please feel free to make their day. The only requirement is that all cardholders must be at least 19 years of age to use the gift card to purchase alcohol. The cardholder can be under 19 to use the card to collect empties money or to purchase non-alcoholic items.

  • Do gift cards expire?

Nope! No expiration date in sight. You’re good to load and reload your gift card again and again with no extra fees or charges. Just remember that gift cards have no redeemable value until they’ve been purchased and activated in-store.

  • What happens if I lose my gift card?

Because Beer Store gift cards are almost like cash, we can’t issue a replacement for a lost, stolen or damaged card unless it’s been registered online. For this reason, it’s a really good idea to register your gift card. It only takes a second, and you can register your card here.

  • How do I check my balance?

Oh, that’s an easy one. To check your gift card balance, simply enter your card number at this link and click that you’re not a robot (unless, of course, you are a robot) to reveal the balance. If this is a card that you’ve reloaded, the addition to your balance will happen in real time.
