Beer Details

Hello my name is:

Red Cap

Some things about me: Category: Discount
Type: Ale
Style: Blonde
Country: Canada
Brewer: BRICK
Alcohol Content (ABV): 5.0%

Red Cap Ale is a smooth tasting beer. Brewed to the original Carling recipe, this Canadian style ale has the same smooth, sparkling taste that made this nostalgic brand so famous in the 50s and 60s.

This is an outstanding beer. I missed the original release of this brand by (several) decades, now I'm making up for lost time. Really great taste.

This beer is a blonde ale, light in colour and body. This beer does definitely have an overall bolder flavour profile than its blonde lager counterparts - a slightly heavier body, more robust grainy flavours with a subtle earthiness. This is one of my favourite beers regardless of price. My only problem is that they don't come in stubbies anymore.

A good "old fashioned" flavour. A full bodied ale for cold bodied weather. Nice that it's lasted all these years. About stubbies, apparently, they were made to reduce shipping costs. You could have more cases in each stack in the truck than long necks. However, that changed to conform to a standard bottle height agreed upon between Canadian and American brewers during trade negotiations in the early 1980s. Believed to be true but uncertain of that fact.

Kegs are available for pick-up at The Beer Store Distribution Centres in Brampton, London, Ottawa, Whitby, Stoney Creek and Sudbury. You can also order kegs at most retail stores, but check with the store manager first for availability. Oh really? I inquired at the Cedarbrae Beer Store in Scarborough(where I purchase another brand of 20 litre keg for home use) and at the Whitby Confusion Centre about acquiring Red Cap in a keg, and was told that I should contact Brick directly, since neither of them carry it (yes, a Distribution Centre does NOT distribute it). I talked to a person at Brick regarding my interest in their product and of my lack of service (interest) from The Beer Store, but he never got back to me. He must have encountered the same lack of interest from the Beer Store that I did. Pity.

Hi Mark. We are looking into what happened at the Whitby Distribution Centre and are working to improve the communication. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Why do people care what type of bottle the beer comes in? It's amazing in anything - I'd drink it out of a baby bottle.

Red Cap defines what "Classic Canadian" beer is. If you like Canadian Ales - this is great. Probably the best example of a really simple style of beer. If you're one of those people who thinks beer should be like wine and having "tasting notes" or a generally snobbish culture surrounding it - you probably won't be impressed and that's a good thing, because Red Cap Fanatics wouldn't be impressed with you 'nuff said

If you like the taste of European brews, you must try this. For the price this and Upper Canada are clear winners.
