case of cans costs $38 because of politicians like McGuinity who keep raising the liquor taxes. Its not like we don't already pay enough income taxes/HST. In the states you pay less taxes and beer is less than 1/2 price

Sep 24 - 23:09

that's only a very small part of the answer, it's only the MINIMUM pricing that is government set, the rest is brewery set, in other words, they CHOOSE to charge you $38. Also, the larger breweries, namely molsoncoors and inbev (who own "labatt's") have actually lobbied the governments to raise minimum prices of beer. Yeah, there are a lot of taxes on out liquor, but that's just ONE of the factors.

Then why is it that just across the border from Ottawa in Gatineau, I can walk down to the corner store and buy the same 12-pack of Canadian for $12.99? The brewery's minimum price doesn't vary by province. It's entirely government and tax based so stop defending your friend Dalton and his cash-grab schemes.

i can't wait for privitization in ontario. we're all slaves to the lcbo and beer store. competition is the only way to benefit the consumer.

the beer store IS privately owned - by Anheuser-busch (aka "labatt's"), Molson-Coors (aka "Molson") and Sapporo (aka "sleeman")

i can't believe Molson's is actually 'advertising' an apparent wonderful deal on 12 tall boys at a savings of 5 cents a can !! oh Molson's, please throw me another bone... what a bunch of crap, that's how desperate we are for a deal on our beer in Ontario, and some people will actually, no, alot of people will actually buy the cans because it's 'on sale'.

The beer in Ontario is expensive because of taxes. That is the way it is. Ours is cheap compared to the Maritimes.

taxes ? that's no excuse. how do other smaller companies offer their beer about $1 per bottle ? with the VOLUME of beer Molson's produce they should be giving the consumer much better deals. it's the same old story of the fat guy not giving back to the customer who made him what he is today. just look at Rogers, these guys don't need to offer deals because they own the market and without any decent competition they can keep stuffing their wallets. sorry "beer store" but we need to have more stores selling and competing for the consumer or this will never change.

Dalton the Dictator has a law that states a "minimum price" for beer in Ontario. Even if Molson wanted to, they couldn't sell their lower than the minimum price for Ontario. If I ran this province, any brewer could sell their beer for any price they want and at any place they want. This is why our "taxes on beer" are so high. They pay for all the gov't BS which is included in every case of beer we buy.

molsoncoors and inbev (who own "labatt's") - who also OWN 98% of the beer store have actually lobbied the governments to raise minimum prices of beer. In other words, mcguinty isn't the only one responsible for raising prices.
