Lake of Bays Brewing Company is located on Hwy. 117 in Baysville, Ontario, close to the town docks on the South Muskoka River. The brand-new building features high ceilings, natural light and large windows for public viewing.
The great-great-great-grandfather of Lake of Bays Brewing's President, Darren Smith, owned an Inn in Preston, Lancashire, U.K. in 1873. Since transportation and storage were much less developed in 19th century England than they are today, pubs couldn't rely on regular shipments of casks from established breweries to keep the beer flowing. This was especially true in smaller towns such as Preston. With that being said, Darren's great-great-great-grandparents almost certainly brewed their own beer on premises to serve their clientele. Lake of Bays Brewing Company likes to think they are continuing the family brewing tradition after a short break of just over a century!
